Nagpur: Bharatiya Kamgar Sena, a trade union wing of Shiv Sena, has threatened to launch ‘Bus Roko’ agitation and bring Aapli Bus service to a grinding halt over the demand of minimum wages to employees.
The District Convener of the Kamgar Sena Bandu Talvekar, who had crippled the Aapli Bus service in the city for 50 hours recently over the conductor-cop fracas, said that a memorandum of demands has been submitted to the Mayor, Municipal Commissioner and Chairman of Transport Committee. He has demanded minimum wages for drivers, conductors, and other employees of Aapli Bus.
The Chairman of Transport Committee Jitendra (Bunty) Kukde has stated that a proposal for implementation of minimum wages to Aapli Bus employees has already been sent to Labour Commissioner and State Government. As soon as the State Government approves the proposal appropriate decision on minimum wages to Aapli Bus employees will be taken. Currently, the wages are being pain in accordance with the laid down norms.
It may be recalled that city buses had remained off the roads for almost two days in the first week of September as drivers and conductors resorted to strike demanding action against a police constable for assaulting a conductor. Facing allegations of molesting the constable’s wife, the conductor got bail and was released. However, no action was taken against the police constable despite an assurance given by higher authorities.
