Members of Gond Dynasty deface King Beer Shah’s tomb

Nagpur: Two days back Members of Gond Dynasty broke into Samadhi premises to build a cement structure in front of their forefather King Beer Shah’s tomb despite Archaeological Survey of India’s strict prohibitions.

Currently the premises come under Archaeological Survey of India’s protected monument. Their last King Raje Dinkar Shah Atram was buried beside King Beer Shah’s tomb in 2009 with Archaeological Survey of India’s permission. However no permission was given to build a tomb or any other structure above it.

Two days back i.e. June 22, 2015, a mob of seventy persons came inside the premises of Samadhi premises and threatened the caretakers of tomb. Within a span of 30 minutes a complete cement structure was built above Atram’s burial spot. After this defacement of heritage, a complaint was lodged by Archaeological Survey of India to City police and Municipal Corporation on June 22, 2015. However no action has been initiated by both the departments.
