State CID on Monday submitted a chargesheet against 4, including security service owner and activist Mikky Bakshi before the lower court, in the case of the death of NCP Seva Dal Leader Ganesh Mate. Sadar Police had earlier investigated the matter as murder, State CID chose to charge Mikky and three other with kidnapping, assault, abetment of suicide and other charges. However, Ganesh Mate’s son Swapnil maintained that his father was abducted by Bakshi and his men on July 22nd. Swapnil also alleged that Investigation Officer of State CID (Crime) G.B Yadav bent the case so as to defend the accused as they were close to him. After Mate’s mutilated body was found on the railway tracks in Kalamna Area, the GRP registered a case of abduction and murder. The case was then handed over to the Sadar Police for further investigation. On August 6th, Home Minister R.R Patil forwarded the case to State CID – Crime for an impartial investigation. Swapnil claimed that the investigation officer Yadav did not record the statements of two eye witnesses and went on to file the charge-sheet in the court in a hurry. Property fallout resulted to an ugly episode in which the body of Mate was found on the railway tracks near Kalamna on June 23rd. Swapnil has demanded the appointment of Advocate Ujwal Nikam as a special prosecutor in this case.
