Nagpur: As Nagpur decks up for 61st Dhammachakra Pravartan Din the city is reminiscent with rare memories of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar who had resolved to seek Deeksha of Boudha Dhamma on October 14, 1956. Subsequently, lakhs of people reached Nagpur’s Deekshabhoomi and took Deeksha of Boudha Dhamma. At that time, pamphlets in the name of “Community conversion’ were published. One of the copies of the same rare pamphlet was received by Nagpur Today through Whatsapp.
The rare, memorable pamphlet mentions the name of V M Godbole who was Secretary of Nagpur Branch of Bharatiya Boudhajan Samiti. The pamphlet had appealed all those seeking Deeksha of Boudha Dhamma to reach Deekshabhoomi wearing white robes. The programme had got off to start at 8 am on October 14, 1956. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar along with lakhs of other people took Deeksha on this day.
Nagpur Today has also received some rare photographs connected with lifestyle of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. The photographs include Dr Babasaheb taking Deeksha, giving speech, with family members, meeting different people, participating in various events and some memorable images of his Mahaparinirvan.
