1,27,324 ha land irrigated in first year of Jalyukta shivar: CM

CM Devendra FadnavisNagpur: Total 1,077 villages were selected in Nagpur division under Jalyukta Shivar and work of 656 villages have been completed. In the first year itself the area under irrigation has been increased by 12,7324 hectares, informed chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in press conference on Sunday.

A divisional review meeting was convened under the chairmanship of CM Fadnavis at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Mangement college hall. During the meeting, Fadnavis personally interacted with tehsildar and block development officer to know any hurdles or problems in Jalyukta Shivar scheme.

Fadnavis further informed 30 to 90 per cent of works have been completed in the remaining villages of Jalyukta Shivar and all these works will be completed by December. Similarly, 964 villages have been selected in 2016-17 and 740 crore will be spent on works here. Out of these 3,234 works have been started and the remaining works will be completed after monsoon, informed Fadnavis.

A target of developing 8,478 farm pond was set by the government and 13,536 applications were revieved on the same from the division. Out of which 8,623 applications have been approved and work orders of 7,650 farm ponds have been issued. Besides, work of 922 farm ponds have been completed.

Total 17,794 wells were approved under NREGA and 10842 works have been completed. Similarly, 7000 well works are in progress and the backlog of agriculture pumps have been removed. Total 25000 agricultural pump connections were distributed in one years time, informed Fadnavis.

Mama lakes to be rejuvenated
There are 6,481 mama lakes in Nagpur division. And most of these lakes are in Bhandara and Gondia districts. However, due to the negligence the water level in these lakes are decreasing . Hence, the government has decided to rejuvenate them. This work will include 1,414 lakes in 2016-17 with a cost of 207 crore and 150 crore has already been disbursed for the same, informed Fadnavis.
