Nagpur: The 12th Convocation ceremony of the Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Ramtek, was organised at the University’s premises on Wednesday.
Ramesh Bais, Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Public Universities of State, presided over the ceremony through virtual medium, while Prahlad Joshi, Vice Chancellor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, Nalbari, Assam was the chief guest.
Hareram Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Ramtek; Krishnakumar Pandey, Registrar; and Dr Jaywant Chowdhari, Examination Controller, were prominently present along with members of administrative council, academic council, and deans of all the departments.
Tripathi in his welcome speech, presented the development and progress report of the University, and mentioned that the University has adopted the National Education Policy (NEP) and has also operated academic programmes based on the Indian knowledge tradition. Tripathi further stated that the aim of the University is to establish an international centre at Waranga, and several interdisciplinary research and educational activities will be organised through association with international universities. He expressed his gratitude to Ramesh Bais, Governor, and to the State Government for their consistent guidance and cooperation.
Ramesh Bais addressed the attendees and students through virtual medium. In his speech he stated that the international study centre being developed at Waranga will emerge as a centre of excellence and attract students from around the world. He mentioned that India’s past, present and future is incomplete without Sanskrit language, and apart from the field of yoga and ayurveda, the people are drawing towards Sanskrit language globally.
He noted that there is a need to create a network of Sanskrit educational institutions to offer short-term programmes in spoken Sanskrit, and expressed that KKSU should encourage interdisciplinary research and connect Sanskrit scholars from India and abroad under the association with international universities.
In this convocation ceremony, a total of 10,583 degree certificates were awarded to students. The students who have passed in the year 2021-22 and 2022-23, were presented with 87 gold medals in more than 35 disciplines along with 25 cash prizes. Also, 14 students were honoured with PhD degrees under various faculties.
Dr Anoma Sakhare was honoured with Doctor of Literature (D.Litt) for her research ‘Study of Buddhist iconography and temple architecture as an illustrating expression of Buddhism in its proliferation in Theravadin Buddhist countries.’ Shruti Sharma and Radha Deshkar were awarded seven gold medals and cash prize for securing highest marks in Master of Arts (MA) Acharya (Sanskrit) subject.
Akanksha Pande and Shrutika Badge were honoured with Kulpati Suvarna Padak for obtaining highest marks in MA (Philosophy). Simran Thakur and Harshal Bangade were presented with Shri Samarth Sadguru Shankar Maharaj Rasal Smruti gold medal for best all-round students among Ramtek, Waranga and Ratnagiri universities. Gold medals for best thesis were awarded to Saurabh Joshi (Faculty of Vedic Studies), Rajivranjan Mishra (Faculty of Sanskrit and Non-Sanskrit), Gaurav Kadalag (Faculty of Indian Religion, Philosophy and Culture), Neelima Ridhe (Faculty of Education) and Pranav Mule (Faculty of Ancient IndianSciences and Humanities).
Prahlad Joshi, VC, in his speech said that it is necessary to promote Sanskrit language. He added that the study and teaching of Sanskrit language should be multi-skill, practical and engaging, and for this it is necessary to improve textbooks, train teachers, and experiment with Sanskrit communication. Dr Parag Joshi conducted the proceedings of the convocation ceremony.
