Nagpur: As many as 136 physically challenged students of various schools, during an NMC education department sponsored camp under the provisions of Right to Education Act, 2009, held at NMC Hall Yashwant Stadium here in the city on July 27, were distributed necessary educational material and physiotherapeutic equipment.
The camp was attended by physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and psychologists, etc, who examined the physically challenged students from all angles and prescribed equipment as per their individual need. In all 351 students were examined in the camp for various physical disorders, like, mental retardation, dumb and deaf, cerebral palsy, multi-handicap and other types of challenge.
This was a wonderful experiment conducted by the NMC’s education committee in the interest of the physically challenged, for the academic session 2015-16. The NMC first conducted a survey of such needy students in 540 private primary schools, 250 secondary schools and NMC-run 196 schools through its dedicated teachers in order to bring them to the main stream of educational development and make them overcome their challenges, and also ensure their rehabilitation. The NMC noted that due to such handicap condition many children were unable to receive even elementary level education.
The NMC is hopeful of receiving Rs 95.10 lakh as grant from the state government for the academic year 2015-16 at the rate of Rs 3000 per student in NMC run schools.
