14 persons, including lawyers, assault 4 after chasing car in Nagpur

Nagpur: A group of 14 youngsters, some of them lawyers and law students, brutally assaulted four persons after chasing their car for almost four kilometres. Three persons were seriously injured in the attack. Bajaj Nagar Police are yet to identify the culprits involved in the brutal attack.

According to police, complainant Mrugraj Singh Sengar (30), a resident of Shrihari Nagar, Omkar Nagar, works at Indus Air Cooler Company. On March 30, Mrugraj, accompanied by his associates Vikram Singh Rathod, Sudhidevi Prasad Choubey, and Manoj Lakhorkar, travelled to Morshi in a car (MH-48/S7288). After completing their work, they reached Shankar Nagar Square around 3 am, where they had breakfast before returning to their car.

Upon reaching their vehicle, they encountered a black coloured Hyundai Verna car parked in front of their car, with two occupants inside. Mrugraj honked to prompt the driver to move the car, but to no avail. Mrugraj reversed his car and attempted to manoeuvre around the obstructing vehicle. He then confronted the Verna car driver for not moving his vehicle. Following this confrontation, Mrugraj and his companions proceeded towards Gandhi Nagar. However, they soon found themselves being chased by three cars including two Verna cars and a Mercedes car.

The pursuit continued until they reached the area near old Hingna Toll Plaza, where both pursuing vehicles blocked Mrugraj’s car. Mrugraj halted his car, at which point around 14 persons from the chasing vehicles approached him. They forcibly dragged him and his associates out of the car and subjected him to verbal abuse and physical assault. The four were brutally assaulted using a baseball stick. During the altercation, Mrugraj Singh’s gold chain fell off. After some time, the attackers fled the scene in their vehicles.

Bajaj Nagar police have registered a case under Sections 143, 147, 149, 324, 294, 341 and 427 of Indian Penal Code. Sources claimed that most of the accused are residents of Jaripatka area and came to Shankar Nagar for snacks after allegedly consuming liquor.
