BJP Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur participated in the meeting of the 16th Finance Commission held at the State Guest House Peterhoff in the capital Shimla. Jairam Thakur said that in view of the very difficult geographical and economic conditions of Himachal Pradesh, special cooperation is expected from our Modi government at the Center for the development of Devbhoomi Himachal Pradesh.
Jairam Thakur advocated for special grant to Himachal Pradesh by our Modi Government at the Centre to accelerate the development of Himachal Pradesh and improve road connectivity.
LoP said that tourism is the basis of Himachal’s economy. Air connectivity will give a boost to tourism. He thanked the Modi government at the Centre for giving Rs 1000 crore for the construction of Mandi’s greenfield airport and Rs 400 crore for the expansion of Kangra airport to improve air connectivity.
Jai Ram Thakur urged the members of the 16th Finance Commission to provide more funds for the Mandi Green Field Airport and Kangra Airport.

In the meeting of the 16th Finance Commission team in Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla, the current Sukhu government of Himachal Pradesh has placed the current financial situation and expectations of the state before the 16th Finance Commission team, in which the 16th Finance Commission team is keeping a close eye on OPS, Freebies and a decision on the grant will be taken after taking feedback from all the states.
The team of 16th Finance Commission, formed to recommend the distribution of financial resources between the Modi government at the Center and all the state governments, has reached the capital Shimla on a three-day tour.
The team of 16th Finance Commission held an important meeting with the Himachal government on Monday at the State Guest House Peterhof, in which the honorable CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was also present. Himachal Pradesh government shared the financial status of the state with the team of 16th Finance Commission and urged the team of 16th Finance Commission to advocate the interests of Himachal Pradesh regarding the continuous revenue deficit of crores of rupees and recommended the new Finance Commission to increase the grant before the Central Government.
After an important meeting with the Himachal Pradesh government at the State Guest House Peterhoff, the Chairman of 16th Finance Commission Arvind Panagariya said that the geographical conditions of Himachal Pradesh are different from other states. Disasters increase the problems here and more money is required in such states. Right now the Himachal Pradesh government has put forth its point. After taking opinion and discussion from all the states, the 16th Finance Commission will submit its recommendations to the Central Government.
Arvind Panagariya said that the Himachal Pradesh government has implemented OPS, due to which the financial condition has worsened. This will also be monitored and only after that the final decision on the grant will be taken.
The 16th Finance Commission will also deliberate on the distribution of free goodies and after preparing a detailed report, the share of the states will be decided with the Central Government.
