New Delhi: Leaders of 17 political parties in the Opposition are at Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s lunch today. They will be discussing the upcoming Presidential elections and the way ahead for the opposition.
There will be an informal discussion on a consensus candidate for the President to take on the NDA’s nominee.
The meeting is also being seen as a show of strength by the opposition parties.
Congress VP Rahul Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad, DMK’s Kanimozhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, NC’s Omar Abdullah, BSP chief Mayawati, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, CPI(M)’s Sitaram Yechury, CPI’s D Raja are among the 17 leaders at the meeting. Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal is not at the meet since he was not invited. JDU-chief Nitish Kumar sent Sharad Yadav to the lunch meet.
The meeting coincides with the day government completes three years in office.
