17-Year-Old Killed in Hit-and-Run Near Gorewada Zoo in Nagpur

Nagpur: Nagpur city continues to witness an alarming number of hit-and-run incidents. Just two days ago, a speeding car mowed down nine laborers sleeping on a sidewalk near the Dighori Naka area. Adding to the city’s woes, another hit-and-run incident has occurred. A speeding truck struck and killed a 17-year-old boy on Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as Ashwin Athawale. The tragic incident took place late Thursday night near the Gorewada Zoo area on Katol Road. After the accident, the truck driver fled the scene, and police are currently searching for him. This marks the third hit-and-run incident in Nagpur within a week, causing widespread concern among the residents.

According to reports, Ashwin was riding a motorcycle when he was hit by the speeding truck. The impact was so severe that Ashwin died instantly. Local residents rushed to the scene following the accident. Upon seeing the gathering crowd, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.

The police arrived at the scene, took possession of Ashwin’s body, and sent it to the hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered against the truck driver. In a related incident, the number of fatalities from the previous hit-and-run involving the nine laborers has increased. A 4-year-old girl, who was among those injured, succumbed to her injuries, raising the death toll from that accident to three. Two victims had died instantly at the scene.
