2 goons take woman hostage in her house in Hudkeshwar, loot booty worth Rs 2.27 lakh

In a sensational incident, two unidentified goons barged into the house of a 51-year old woman in Hudkeshwar area, took her hostage and then looted cash and gold ornaments collectively valued at Rs 2.27 lakh at knife point on Monday night. After the loot, the two miscreants fled the spot and are now subject of a massive manhunt by cops.

The victim, Shobha Gungaonkar (51), resident of Plot No. 11 ‘C,’ Dubey Nagar in Hudkeshwar police jurisdiction, was alone in her house on Monday night. Around 8 pm, the two robbers knocked door and asked “Is Rahul (her son) at home.” As soon as Shobha opened the door, the two ruffians forced their entry into her house at knife point and took her hostage immediately. They gagged her mouth and tied her hands with the help of a piece of cloth. After the “job” the two dacoits grabbed the keys of a steel almirah and laid their hands on cash and gold jewellery collectively valued at Rs 2.27 lakh and fled the scene leaving Shobha dumb struck. The robbery, probably, came to light when Shobha’s son Rahul returned home and saw the “horror.”

Hudkeshwar police were immediately alerted about the looting. Subsequently a squad of police station staff, Crime Branch team and higher officials reached the spot and started their investigation after registering a case under Sections 394, 452, 34 of the IPC.

According to sources, Shobha stays with her son Rahul who works in a finance company. Shobha’s husband passed away eight years ago. So far cops have been found clueless even though a few suspects have been detained and are being interrogated. Cops are not ruling out a job of insiders and as a result Rahul is also the subject of an intense investigation. The Senior Police Inspector of Hudkeshwar Police Station has reportedly confirmed the robbery.
