2 held for extorting money from doctor

Nagpur: Sonegaon Police arrested two goons for extorting money from a medical practitioner by impersonating as social workers. The accused have been identified as Alok Arvind Meshram (40), a resident of Plot No 88, Empress Mill Colony, Bezonbag, Jaripatka, and Ashwin Ramesh Tangde (35), a resident of Sugat Nagar. Around 8.15 pm on December 16, Dr Gajanan Pralhadrao Pawane (56) was closing his clinic situated near a pipal tree at Shivangaon.

Posing as social workers, Meshram and Tangde came to him and told him that they knew how he treated the patients. Meshram then demanded Rs two lakh from Dr Pawane after threatening him of dire consequences. Meshram sat in Dr Pawane’s car and threatened to kill him and his family. He then forced Dr Pawane to take him to the ATM onWardha Road and withdraw the cash.

After Dr Pawane withdrew Rs 3500 from the ATM, Meshram snatched the cash from him. Meshram and Tangde then fled the spot in a four-wheeler bearing registration number MH-27/AC- 4567. Around 12.30 pm next day, Meshram and Tangde contacted Dr Pawane from cell numbers 8928069922 and 7822986100 and demanded the remaining amount of Rs 1,96,500.

They again threatened to kill him if he failed to fulfill their demand. Following the victim’s complaint, cops registered a case under Sections 386 (Extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt), 506 (Criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common) of the Indian Penal Code against Meshram and Tangde. Further investigations are underway.
