Nagpur: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said the entire Nagpur city will receive 24X7 drinking water in the next seven months. Speaking at a public event in Nagpur on Sunday, Gadkari said: “Already 60%-70% of the city gets water 24/7, making it the first city in the country to undertake such an ambitious project.”
Gadkari inaugurated overhead water tanks in East Nagpur which he said will address water scarcity complaints. He said that Rs 1300 crore has been spent on laying new water pipelines all the way from Pench. “We have also repaired the Kanhan plant. Apart from this we are laying a network of water distribution pipes.”
Earlier in the day Gadkari performed bhoomipujan for an e-library in the Nagpur East Assembly constituency. The upcoming e-library is being pitched as a model project which will benefit people from all age groups. Gadkari said: “Be it youngsters or senior citizens, this building will have facilities for all of them. We know that earlier former Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari had started an e-library on Central Avenue Road and that too proved to be an excellent project.”
The Union Minister had a word of praise for local MLA Krishna Khopde. “Khopde was the one who insisted that a quality higher education institute be started in East Nagpur. He wanted Symbiosis to start a campus here and that’s what we did,” he said.
Gadkari said a Rs 150 crore ‘food mall’ project will come up at Pardi soon. “All roadside vendors will be given spots there, so people can have the same snacks like paani puri, bhel etc in a better environment. Roadside sale of items has to stop because the water disposal from these places leads to various diseases,” said Gadkari.
Multiple efforts have been taken by Central and State Governments for the benefit of Nagpur, Gadkari said while speaking at the function. “In MIHAN-SEZ, we have seen jobs increasing steadily with almost 70,000 youths from the city benefitting from the ambitious project.”
