Nagpur: The Mumbai zonal unit of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday said that it intercepted an alleged international gold smuggler at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur and seized 3.35 kg of gold worth around Rs 1.80 crore from him.
Based on the inputs, the NCB team identified the Indian citizen named A Khan who was returning from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Nagpur. The team also identified flight details of the person. The team then arrived in Nagpur and intercepted the persons arrived here by Jeddah-Nagpur flight on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
As per the statement issued by the NCB, in pursuance of intensive operational activity and active intelligence, the NCB Mumbai intercepted an international gold smuggler along with 3.35 kg of gold at Nagpur Airport. The person was coming from Saudi Arabia and was to handover the gold to another person. Khan was carrying gold in the form of paste and had stored it in seven packets which he had stitched to the inner side of his jeans.
A Khan confessed to NCB officials that the paste was, in fact, gold. NCB officials said Khan had been working in a Saudi Arabia-based company for the last three years.
