Nagpur: Following the recovery of a mobile phone from an inmate in Nagpur Central Prison, three policemen attached to Police Headquarters have been suspended by Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar over dereliction of duty.
The cops came under the scanner after an undertrial was found hiding a mobile phone and a phone battery at Nagpur Central Jail on Saturday. The suspended policemen have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tangrajan Pillay, Police Constables Ashant Sorte and Prasannajeet Meshram.
On January 5, the cops escorted an undertrial inmate Pranav Tukaram Borse to Gujarat to produce him in the court. The police party returned to the jail with the accused and handed him over to the Nagpur jail staff on Saturday at 5 am. During checking, the jail staffers discovered that Borse was hiding a mobile phone and a phone battery in his clothes. The jail staffers seized the material. After receiving the information, the CP suspended the policemen.
