Dharamshala/Nagpur: The Kangra police have sent three separate teams to Talwara in Hoshiarpur district and Pathankot in Punjab and Lakhanpur in Jammu and Kashmir to trace the accused of murder of a taxi driver, whose vehicle was hijacked from Gaggal in Kangra.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Kangra, Vijay Saklnai said on Friday that three people hired the taxi of Vijay Kumar (34), a resident of Gurdaspur in Punjab on the evening of January 14.
“We have obtained footage from CCTV camera installed at Gaggal Chowk in which three people can be seen boarding the taxi,” told Saklani adding that police were also enquiring from hotels in Mcleodganj whether the three stayed there.
The police have learnt from the other taxi drivers that the unidentified people had came to hire taxi and Vijay had agreed to drop them at Pathankot on a relatively low fare.
“The taxi started for Pathankot at around 8.15pm. However, Kumar didn’t return for the whole night after which his maternal uncle filed a missing report,” Saklani said.
“His body was found on January 20 in a nullah near a station named 32 Miles on the Shimla-Pathankot highway, 35 km from the district headquarters at Dharamshala, on the basis of mobile location,” said the ASP.
He said that the instead of going towards Pathankot, the accused took the car to Talwara via Jawali.
“They probably took an isolated route to enter Punjab,” said Saklani.
