Nagpur: Fatalities in hit-and-run mishap incidents on the streets of the Second Capital continue unabated with three more persons losing their lives in separate incidents on Sunday.
In the first incident that took place in the New Kamptee area, a middle-aged man was killed after a motorcyclist crashed head-on with his motorbike near B N Patil Dhaba on the Nagpur-Jabalpur Highway.
Identified as Dilip Ganpatrao Pardhi (54), the deceased was a resident of Plot No 58, Baradwari, Kapsi Khurd, Pardi.
Pardhi was returning home on his motorbike (MH-40/AY-2517) around 5.30 pm. Suddenly, a youth riding a motorcycle (CG25/L-5761) crashed head on with his motorbike. Pardhi fell off the vehicle and suffered grievous injuries. Fearing arrest, the youth sped away. Pardhi was rushed to Mayo Hospital where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead.’
After recording the statement of Shriram (49), younger brother of the deceased, New Kamptee Police registered a case under Sections 279, 337, 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), read with Sections 184 of the Motor Vehicle (MV ) Act, against the youth and launched a search for him.
In a similar mishap, 60- year-old Shivbahadursingh Thakur, a resident of Krishna Heritage Apartment, Godhni, lost his life after a speeding motorcyclist hit him in front of Axis Bank, Rabindranath Tagore Road in Civil Lines. Thakur was returning home from the office of Maharashtra State Board for Secondary & Higher Secondary Education on his motorcycle (MH-31/FN-5441) around 6.15 pm. In front of Axis Bank, a young man riding a motorbike at a high speed hit Thakur from the front injuring him seriously. The errant biker fled the spot after Thakur fell off the bike.
Injured Thakur was rushed to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Sitabuldi. Later, he was referred to VIMS Hospital, LIC Square, Mohan Nagar, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Sitabuldi Police, on the basis of a complaint lodged by Manoj (36), son of the deceased, registered a case under Sections 279, 304(A) of the IPC, read with Sections 134, 177, 184 of the MV Act, and initiated an investigation.
In another incident, a 34- year-old man was killed after an unidentified four-wheeler hit his motorcycle on Sakkardara Flyover around 8.45 pm. The deceased, Sachin Bhaskar Mire, was a resident of Plot No 77, Ashirvad Nagar. Sakkardara Police are investigating the case.
