3 Nagpur girls for Junior Nationals

Three city girls — Mugdha Amraotkar, Maithili Pantawane and Antra Mehta  — have been selected to represent Maharashtra in the forthcoming National Junior (U-18) Basketball Championship slated to be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Ernakullam, Kerala, from May 26 to June 2.

The National Championship for boys and girls has been organized by Basketball Federation of India (BFI) to pick the Indian team for the FIBA Asia Championship slated to be played in the later part of the year.

While Mugdha – city’s second international player – and Maithili are members of Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM), Antra practices at the Saraswati Kanya Sangh (SKS) courts.

After the six-day preparatory camp held at the Father Agnel School’s courts in Vashi, Navi Mumbai all the three city cagers have been included in the state squad for the National Tourney.

It may be mentioned here that in the selection tournament of Maharashtra State Inter-District Basketball Championship held at Aurangabad the Nagpur girls’ team finished as runners-up.

The 12-member Maharashtra team will depart for the National Championship from Mumbai on May 24. Pune’s Lalit Nahata has been named as head coach of Maharashtra girls’ team.

The President of Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) Sandip Joshi, Secretary NDBA Shatrughna Gokhale, Treasurer of Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA) Anup Rajurkar and all the district officials lauded the achievements of all the three city players and wished them luck for their endeavour.

The Team from Maharashtra (Girls) include Shruthi Menon, Saaz Karindikar, Ishwari Pingle, Rupali Tripathi, Suyosha Shetty (all Pune), Mugdha Amraotkar, Antra Mehta, Maithili Pantawane (all Nagpur), Rutuja Kulkarni, Charmi Bhagat (both Mumbai North), Tanvi Dabhade (Thane) and Rachel Netto (Mumbai Central)
Head Coach: Lalit Nahata (Pune), Coach: Amit Sampat (Nagpur), Manager: Sarita Shinde (Sindhudurg).
