Nagpur: The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Nagpur Rural Police arrested three persons in connection with attempted murder of Vandana Savrangpatte, the Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue) (SDO) in Ramtek.
The assailants, operating a truck, not only tried to crush the SDO but also wielded an iron rod and hammer in an attempt to kill her, said police.
The arrested accused have been identified as truck driver Jageshwar Hariram Yadav (35), a resident of Pardi; Monu Kadar Khan (34), and Vishnu Chandrapakash Mishra (33), both residents of Kharbi.
According to police, a special team of the Revenue Department was assembled to combat illegal sand transportation by the sand-smugglers at 11 am on Sunday. The team positioned themselves near Ghotitok village, situated along the Mansar-Tumsar National Highway. A tipper attempted to evade the team. Despite signalling the tipper driver to stop, it veered off the highway towards Ghotitok to Kachurwahi Road.
The tipper driver tried to run over SDO Savrangpatte. Fortunately, she narrowly escaped. Soon, she and her team started chasing the tipper. Acting on the information, the LCB arrested the accused from their residences on Monday. The accused are handed-over to Ramtek Police for further action.
Under the guidance of SP Harssh Poddar, Addl SP Dr Sandip Pakhale, the arrest was made by Police Inspector Omprakash Kokate, API Rajiv Karmalwar, and staff including Roshan Kale, Umesh Fulbel, Shankar Madavi, Nitesh Piprode, Pramod Bhoyar, Virendra Narad, Vipin Gaidhane and others.
