The incident that shook the busy area took place when Pachpaoli Police had taken Rohit Sunil Naharkar (28), Shyam Babu Kusere (30), and Rajkumar Bandu Lachalwar (20), arrested for their involvement in Abhishek’s murder, to the magisterial court as their police custody remand ended on Friday. After the court remanded them to magisterial custody and they were being taken to Central Jail by the police, some of the supporters of the accused were present in the Nyay Mandir premises to meet them.

While they were returning home, four-five goons owing allegiance to deceased Abhishek’s gang attacked them with knives in full public view and fled the spot. Staff from Sadar Police Station rushed to the spot on being informed. Sanjay Sinha, who was seriously injured, was rushed to the hospital. Police launched a manhunt for the assailants.

Pachpaoli Police had arrested Rohit, Shyam and Rajkumar, all residents of Panchkula, near Hanuman Mandir, Pachpaoli for killing Abhishek. Abhishek’s friend Dinesh alias Ganesh had a dispute with Rohit as he had an affair with a girl related to him. Abhishek and his friends went to meet Rohit near Panchkula Hanuman Mandir to settle the matter. Shyam and Rajkumar were already standing with Rohit. The confrontation ignited when one of them engaged in a heated verbal exchange abused them.

As Abhishek intervened to separate them, Rohit, Shyam and Rajkumar attacked him with a sword, stones and bricks, injuring him grievously. Abhishek was rushed to Samarpan Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Mayo Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Though police succeeded in putting behind bars the culprits involved in 10 recent murder cases, criminals seem to be on the free run in the city. On Wednesday night also, three hardened criminals attempted to kill three innocent persons, including a poor senior citizen, on West High Court Road, Dharampeth with sharp-edged weapons. However, police could arrest only one of them while two others are still at large.
