4 persons arrested for transporting cows for slaughter

Hudkeshwar police on Tuesday arrested four persons for transporting 19 cattle in two pick-up vans, reportedly for slaughter in Nagpur or nearby areas. The two vehicles and the 19 cattle including 10 cows, 6 calves and 3 bullocks have been seized. The cattle have been sent to Ujwal Gorakshan, Bahadura, for protection.

Hudkeshwar cops on Tuesday received a tip-off that four persons have dumped 19 cattle heads in two pick-up vans in cruel manner and were transporting them apparently for slaughter. Acting on the information, a team of cops, led by Senior PI Sunil Jhawre, set up a “Nakabandi” at Dighori Post around 11 pm and stopped the two vehicles (MH-34/AB 8806 and MH-34/AV 1346). Upon inspection, the cops found 10 cows, 6 calves and three bullocks dumped in the two vehicles in cruel manner. The four accused Suresh Shriram Raut (32) of Pimpalgaon, Brahmapuri, Ashfaq Mubarak Sheikh, Vinod Anandrao Nahale (24) and Shakir Mubarak Sheikh were transporting the cattle for slaughter.

The four accused have been booked under Sections 5A 1, 5B of Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act read with Sub-Section 11D of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and Sub-Section 83 of Motor Vehicles Act and placed under arrest.
