Nagpur News: Defending champion Nagpur men defeated Thane to begin their campaign on winning note in in the 45th Maharashtra State Inter-District Volleyball Championship that is being organised by Samarth Vyayam Shala at its courts in Ranapratap Nagar.
Nagpur downed Thane 25-12, 25-21 in straight two sets. Gadchiroli men and women teams made winning start
The tourney is conducted under the aegis of Maharashtra State Volleyball Association and Nagpur District Volleyball Association.
While Gadchiroli men drubbed Bhandara 25-12, 25-18, their women counterparts overcame Buldhana 25-14, 25-13 also in straight sets.
The tourney opened with a thrilling match between Hingoli and Nashik. Hingoli men won the first set 25-20 while Nashik bounced back to level scores with a close 25-22 second set victory.
Hingoli regrouped and took the decider 15-09.
In other men’s games, Nanded beat Beed 25-11, 25-17; Wardha defeated Parbhani 25-18, 25-17. In women’s encounters, Yavatmal thumped Ahmednagar 25-07, 25-04; Akola edged past Kolhapur 25-14, 25-17 while Washim were too good for Nanded and scored an easy 25-05, 25-03 win.
At the outset, the event was inaugurated in the presence of cinestar Mahima Choudhary. Mayor Anil Sole presided over the opening function that was graced by MLAs Sunil Kedar and Sudhakar Deshmukh, Shekhar Sawarbandhe, Vijay Dangre, Vijay Sunder and Sunil Hande among other dignitaries.
