Nagpur: In a freak mishap, a car with five passengers onboard fell on the railway tracks after veering off Railway over Bridge (RoB) at Bamani village on Nagpur-Chandrapur highway in the wee hours of Sunday. One passenger was critical while four were seriously injured in the mishap.
According to police, the car driver, identified as Shehbaz alias Yusuf Syed Minaj (30), a resident of Hyderabad, fell asleep while driving on the bridge, subsequently losing control of the vehicle. The impact caused the car to breach the safety barrier, striking the railway’s electric pole before coming to a rest on railway tracks beneath the bridge. The force of the collision resulted in severe injuries to Shehbaz and left the other four occupants wounded.
The injured passengers were identified as Mangala Dilip Vyas (29) resident of Civil Lines, Nagpur; Brenden Mathew Rego (24) of Mohan Nagar, Nagpur; Kavisha Mario Kakade (26) from Mohan Nagar, Nagpur and Sadiq Khan (30) from Hyderabad.
A police official said that all of them were friends and had embarked on a journey together in the Maruti Swift car (TS13/EN-2392). Upon receiving reports of the accident, the Butibori police led by Police Inspector Bhimaji Patil, PSI Sanjay Khandare rushed to the spot. The injured persons were rushed to hospital. PI Patil said that at present, Shehbaz remains in critical condition, while the other four victims are under treatment. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
