5-member gang held for extorting money from woman shopkeeper in Imambada

Nagpur: Imambada Police in Nagpur arrested a five-member gang of goons for allegedly attempting to extort money from an elderly woman at the latter’s grocery shop. After the woman shopkeeper refused to give them ‘hafta,’ the gang had looted Rs 2,000 from the salesman at the shop after threatening him of dire consequences.

Identified as Sunny alias Manpreet Chauhan (30), Aman Jeevan Khare (30), Sunny Raja Tambe (25), Prashant Subhash Kamble (32) and Bunty alias Raj Naresh Mehsuliya (25), the accused are the residents of Imambada Basti.

Asha Tulsiram Rajput (70), a resident of Plot No 13, Abhay Nagar, Rameshwari Ring Road, Ajni, was at her grocery shop – – Balaji Mart — near Kundanlal Gupta Library on July 25. Around 9 pm, the accused came to her shop and demanded Rs 5000 as ‘hafta’ for allowing her to run the business smoothly. When the septuagenarian refused to give the money, they threatened her of dire consequences and left the place.

Again around 9.30 pm on July30, they went to her shop and demanded money. When she bluntly refused, they looted Rs 2000 from salesman Rajkumar Parve’s pocket. While fleeing, they again threatened to kill the grocer.

Soon after receiving the complaint from Asha Rajput, a police team swung into action and nabbed the culprits within six hours. A case under Sections 308(4), 310(2), 60(a) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita was registered against the goons. The arrests were made by Senior PI Kamlakar Gaddime, PSI Madavi and other police personnel.
