59-year old woman burglar nabbed by Tehsil cops, booty worth Rs 5.25 lakh seized

Nagpur: In a curious incident, a 59-year old woman burglar was nabbed by Tehsil police in the city on Monday. Cops recovered stolen cash, gold and silver ornaments collectively worth over Rs 5.27 lakh from her possession.

Identified as Satyavijaya Umrao Narnawre (59), the accused is a resident of LIG Quarter No 324, Vaishali Nagar, Pachpaoli.

According to police, the accused Satyavijaya had stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 1.26 lakh in broad daylight from the house of Kamal Tukaram Chapre, a resident of Plot No 252, Chapre Mohalla, Golibar Chowk, when she had gone to the adjacent house of her sister-in-law on March 9. Kamal Chapre (50) had seen the accused coming out of her house. When Kamal went to her house, she was shocked to find gold ornaments worth Rs 1.26 lakh missing. On the basis of the description of the accused given by Kamal Chapre, cops rounded up Satyavijaya and recovered the ornaments stolen by her from Kamal’s house.

Police obtained the remand of the accused woman burglar for custodial interrogation and seized some more gold ornaments worth Rs 4.65 lakh, silver ornaments worth Rs 40,300 and Rs 22,500 cash from her possession. Possibility of involvement of the accused in some more theft cases cannot be ruled out.

The arrest was made by Senior PI Trupti Sonwane, PI (II) Vinayak Kolhe, and other police personnel under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Additional CP (North Region) Navindra Reddy, DCP (Zone-III) Gajanan Rajmane and ACP Sanjay Surve.
