Nagpur: A 75-year old man was murdered by his friend over distribution of food in Wadi area.
The accused Devrao alias Wasudeo Rameshrao Baraskar (38), a resident of Ward No. 4, Talegaon, Tehsil Ashti, District Wardha, was arrested by Wadi police.
Initially, the police had registered a case of accidental death as the body of Arvind Bapurao Barabde (75), a resident of Dhamma Kirti Nagar, Dattawadi, was found in a passage of Raj Complex with a head injury. However, as the post-mortem report suggested that Arvind died of head injury caused by a blunt thing, the police started investigation on murder angle. After receiving a tip-off that the deceased Arvind was last seen with the accused Devrao, the police picked him up for interrogation. He confessed to committing murder during a quarrel that broke out over distribution of food, police said.
According to police, Devrao and Arvind consumed liquor together at the spot on Wednesday afternoon. Devrao bought ‘Daal Chawal’ for lunch. Arvind opened the food packets and took more than half share of the food in his plate. This act of Arvind enraged Devrao and he picked a quarrel with Arvind. He reportedly abused the aged-man and hit a wooden rod on his head. Sustaining grievous injury, Arvind collapsed on the ground in the pool of blood. He breathed his last on the spot while Devrao fled the spot.
A case under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code was registered by Wadi police. Further investigation is on.
