Nagpur: The semi high speed Vande Bharat Express which began regular service from Monday, got 60% passenger occupancy on both Nagpur to Bilaspur and Bilaspur to Nagpur directions.

Around 775 passengers on Monday travelled in Nagpur-Bilaspur Vande Bharat Express which was flagged from Nagpur by Prime Minister Narendra Modi a day ago. According to South East Central Railway (SECR), 434 passengers travelled to Nagpur from Bilaspur while 341 had booked berths for Nagpur to Bilaspur. The number of passengers was even more as it doesn’t include people who travelled from roadside stations like Gondia, Raipur, Rajnandgaon and Durg where the train has stoppages. This can be known only on Tuesday after submission of record,” said officials.
The 16-coach train has a seating capacity of 1,128 passengers. On Monday, the 20825 Bilaspur-Nagpur train started at 6.45 am and reached Nagpur at 12.15 pm. Train no. 20826 left Nagpur at 2.05 pm and reached Bilaspur at 7.35 pm. The team was led by train captain N Panigrahi, Ajay Singh, Arvind Kumar and Shankar Pandey, a media report said.
A section of passengers said that some of the good features of Vande Bharat include emergency alarm button and talk back units through which passengers can talk to the crew in case of emergencies. All coaches have CCTVs for safe travel.
“The occupancy on the first day was satisfactory considering the lean season. Once it becomes popular, more and more people will prefer this premium train. The train also has toilets for Divyangas in C1 & C14 coaches. No other train has such a facility,” said SECR.

The speed at which the train travels covers the journey starts from 130 km/hour to 160 km/hour with some premium facilities available to the passengers. The distance covered is 412 km.
