Nagpur: The Nagpur Circle of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has provided 84,672 new low-voltage power connections of all categories in Nagpur and Wardha districts in the last financial year.
Earlier, 5,000 to 6,000 new connections were given in Nagpur Circle every month, which has increased to about 7,000 connections a month in the last financial year.
Of the total, as many as 65,027 were domestic, 10,507 commercial, 1,349 industrial and 5,551 were agricultural. The power distribution company also provided electricity connections to 42 E-vehicle charging stations which suggest an increase in usage of electric vehicles in cities and rural areas. Of the 42 connections to e-charging stations, 29 were provided in Nagpur city.
Of 84,672 connections, 47,462 were provided in Nagpur city followed by Nagpur Rural (22,915) and Wardha district (14,295). In Nagpur city, 38,858 domestic connections were provided while 6,670 were commercial and 613 industrial.
Chairman and Managing Director of MSEDCL Lokesh Chandra had emphasized on increasing new power connections to speed up customer service. “Acting on the idea of Ease of Living, the electricity consumers are being provided prompt services. Earlier 60,000 to 70,000
electricity connections were given every year in the Nagpur Circle of MSEDCL, but last fiscal year the number crossed 84,500,” said the official.
The power distribution company also provided 2,734 agricultural connections in Nagpur rural while 2,574 in Wardha and 234 in Nagpur city.
Suhas Rangari, Regional Director, Nagpur Zone of MSEDCL and Dilip Dodke, Chief Engineer, Nagpur zone, had been regularly conducting department-wise reviews to ensure immediate supply of electricity meters for new connections. Therefore, the process of providing new electricity connections has improved.
