Nagpur City receives 36mm rainfall in an hour

Nagpur: For the second day in a row, the Nagpur experienced short but intense rainfall during the afternoon. It only rained for under an hour on Tuesday afternoon, but the heavy downpour amounted to 36.3mm. The day also saw a slight increase in temperature from Monday.

Heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over Central India while thunderstorm was observed at most places in the region. Lightning strike killed two people in Nagpur. The rain in the region was so dense that it caused low visibility. Several low-lying areas were filled with water afterwards.

“Rains, accompanied by thunderstorms are going to be experienced throughout Vidarbha all through the week. Temperatures are expected to come down gradually over the next few days, remaining within the range of 35 degrees and 25 degrees on the Celsius scale,” informed an official from the regional met department.

Nagpur has received a total of 143.3mm since June 1. This makes up 86% of the average monthly rainfall for June which is 165.9mm. Currently, the rainfall in the city is 61% excess for this time of the month. Except for Yavatmal, all other districts of Vidabha also have an excess rainfall with Nagpur and Chandrapur having the highest excess at 61% each.
