Nagpur: A large number of citizens including trade organizations in Nagpur disagree with the government’s decision to keep the banks closed on second and fourth Saturdays of every month, effective from September 1, 2015. The people were of the view that the major associations should move to court against the government’s decision as no banks on two weekends would simply translate into major work loss. It may be mentioned that at present the banks are functioning only half day during all Saturdays having Sunday as off.
Naresh Grover, an eminent member of Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce has sent his set of pointers to the association so that an unanimous appeal may be filed in the court of law. Talking to Nagpur Today he contended that this situation is not only related to me but it will affect entire nation and every citizen equally. “So everybody can file public interest litigation against this decision,” he said.
Grover contended that if the second & fourth Saturday are treated as off & closed, it would amount tremendous loss to the trading community causing them inconvenience in the business, as if any public holiday falls on Monday, in that case the banks would remain closed continuously for three days. Under such circumstances it is observed that most of the employees taking advantage of continuous three holidays extend the privilege leave & hardly bother the customers & Industrialist affecting the banking services.

He added that In numerous cases huge cash is accumulated where there is heavy turnover especially in petrol Pumps/Govt treasury, & in such cases because of closer of the banks on Saturdays, risk factor & crime rate will naturally be increased. It is because locker facility would also be affected.
Keeping the Bank closed for two days i.e on Saturday/Sunday would increase burden of interest over the account holders who are enjoying cash credit & overdraft facilities with such Banks for no fault of theirs & cause monetary losses, this interest burden if taken into consideration would be worth crores of Rupees.
Pleading of the Unions & Management of the Banks stating that Net Banking/ ATM would not disturb the implementation of second & fourth Saturdays as complete off would not serve any purpose as large percentage of customers are still computer illiterate & reluctant to approach Net Banking/ATM. Just for the sake of employees unions & their convenience who are already highly paid, common people should not suffer. If this is implemented amongst the Banking Circle, the employees/workers in the Private sectors would be dissatisfied & hurt their feelings affecting their style of working
In his pointer Grover has advised the Dealers Association and Chamber of Commerce to file litigation before Hon’ble Court to intervene & reverse the decision & pass the order of status quo in the interest of the general public.
