Today we have with us Deputy Commissioner of Police Nirmala Devi S, who is an Indian Police Service Officer of the 2009 Batch. She is of the rank of Superintendent of Police. She took over as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Headquarters, Nagpur City recently. She hails from Tamil Nadu but belongs to the Maharashtra Cadre of IPS Officers.
Start Early Preparation
Talking to Nagpur Today, Nirmala Devi appears to come from usual tried and tested path as she said that consistent hard work alone helped her crack the UPSC Examinations. “One has to start right from the last year of the graduation and has to work hard for one whole year. One cannot quantify the hours one has to study. The amount of time one can devote to quality studying is what really matters. One has to be honest to one self. There has to be a strong and only determination of clearing the UPSC examination,” she quipped.
Go for Good Quality Tutorials
While answering to a question on tutorials, DCP Nirmala Devi S said that everyone needs guidance on “what the UPSC Exams are.” Especially if one is from the rural background, one needs to know a lot of facts about the examination. However, she added that one has to ensure that it is good quality tutorial institution.
UPSC Mains – A Destiny Creator
While speaking about the examination, she said that one must know that one has to clear the Preliminary Examination which is a screening test to ascertain if one is qualified to give the Main UPSC Examination or not. Qualifying in the preliminary examination is a must so one should really study hard and qualify this examination. She called the UPSC Main Examination as the ‘Destiny Creator’.
English Proficiency’s Must
She claimed that from 2011, the authorities have decided to incorporate the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). The marks obtained in this examination are not counted. However, this Test is in English language only and will establish one’s communication skills and proficiency in basic English language.
She claimed that the main UPSC examination can be given in any regional language like English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil or Malayalam.
Gather Maximum Information
While speaking of the preparation, gathering all kinds of latest knowledge and information and when asked about the same in the examination one has to impress the examiner with a varied and wholesome view of the topic in the answer. While encouraging more and more youth to attempt this examination, she advises that only if a youth has the capacity to sustain consistent hard work and concentration, then he or she must go for attempting this exam.
