Nagpur: Tanha Pola was celebrated with much fanfare by city”s young enthusiasts. Dressed in traditional attire, children moved around from home to home with their wooden bulls with a purpose to seek blessings and collect food items and money.
According to tradition, Tanha Pola is celebrated in the evening of Amavasya. People use toran to decorate their house and bulls and perform various ceremonial pujas. City engulfed in the colourful and traditional festivities on Sunday which was the last day of Pola celebrations. The festival is primarily divided into two parts, Motha Pola and Tanha Pola, each have its own significance.
Tanha Pola was celebrated in various parts of city where public ceremony were also performed. Continuing its traditions, the Bal Tanha Pola Utsav Mandal, Maskasath Railway Pull marked the 45th year of Tanha Pola celebrations. As many as 600 bulls were worshiped here and 15 decorative ones were awarded.

City”s Sambhaji Kasar Road, Hansapuri Parisar, Telipura Pethwa, Itwari, Ishwar Nagar Mitra Mandal among other areas marked grand Tanha Pola celebrations. Young children took the festival of Tanha Pola to deliver a strong social message. Dressed up in various avatars, young children were the centre of attraction. While some children delivered strong social message like female foeticide and farmers’ suicide.
