Nagpur: Navratri is one festival, where while many observe fasting yet others gorge on sweets and savouries. Festival without its traditional food is not fun. However, Navratri is the right time to hit the dance floor. Sources said that Dandiya dancing to the tunes of Gujarati music numbers is an excellent way of keeping physically fit.
Navratri has developed into an extravagant and flamboyant festival with the youth outshining one another with the latest designer chaniya-choli numbers or the Gujarati attire for men. At the Dhamal Dandiya organized by Raisoni Group of Educational Institutions, the scenario is not different. The guys and the gals come attired in the best and dazzling traditional attire and enjoy dancing the Dandiya numbers to their hearts’ content. The youngsters enjoy the fast music and take a swirl to the Dandiya Raas.
Professors of the Raisoni College told Nagpur Today that some of the students have been practicing for months together.
The celebrity who made a dazzling appearance at the Dhamal Dandiya on the second day was Kashmira Shah who is an actress and a model. She is the granddaughter of noted Hindustani classical singer, Anjanibai Lolekar. The way the students wanted selfies to be taken with her showed her popularity and for her acting that she has done in numerous Hindi and Marathi films. Kashmira seemed to be at home in the venue since she is half Maharashtrian and half Gujarati.
She wanted to write her message to Nagpur in her own handwriting which we reproduce here.
