Nagpur: While the incident wherein a pig came in front of the aircraft of President Dr Pranab Mukharjee is yet to fade from memory, another animal was spotted around the runway area. This time it”s a deer. Earlier, the DGCA had inspected the surrounding area of airport on September 16 and had assured of no such incident happening in future. But, barely within two months time, another incident of the same kind has put the airport administration under scanner.
According to sources, The deer was spotted at runway area at 11 am. Immediately, a rescue team of forest department was called. But they took a long time to reach airport as there was no four-wheeler available to take them to the spot.
Once they reached the airport, they started searching deer along with veterinary doctors of forest and airport security officers. Though they spotted the deer many times but were not able to catch hold of the animal. The hide and seek went on till evening, but the team could not succeed in its attempts. Finally the rescue team went empty-handed and they will have to begin the search operation again on Wednesday, it was learnt.

As per sources, the rescue team lacked the skills to catch an animal like deer. They were not trained for that and moreover they did not have the required resources to catch the animal. Hence they often fail to catch such animals. Director general of civil aviation (DGCA) west zone Surita Saxena has inspected the work at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on Tuesday itself.
During the inspection, she visited the operational area as well. According to sources, she has given some special instruction to the officers of Mihan India limited (MIL) which is the governing body of the airport. However, senior airport director of MIL Avdhesh Prasad has said that it is an annual inspection and the DGCA officers are also visiting other airports in the country.
