Nagpur: Thanks to State Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule whose efforts to economize power generation have borne fruits. He had suggested that the coal obtained from nearest coal-mines would reduce the cost of transportation of coal and power generation. And even consumers would be benefited. Thus, he has saved crores of rupees spent by MSEGCL on long distance transportation of coal.
It is regarded as an achievement for MSEGCL which is the result of Bawankule’s farsightedness.
Accordingly, now the quality coal from Gare Palma-2 coalmines (in Chhattisgarh state) is being used in power generations stations of Chandrapur and Koradi. As a result, the quality coal is being made available to new generating units for long term benefit, and the uncertainty is removed.
From Gare Palma-2 coalmines annually provide 23,00,00,000 metric tons of coal which would be sufficient for 4500 MW power generation. Moreover 660 MW unit in Koradi is being operated on supercritical technology, saving fuel consumption and also protecting environment. The Ministry of Coal has approved this idea of Bawankule.
