MTDC officials directed to prepare comprehensive plans to develop Deekshabhoomi as tourist place
Nagpur: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has sanctioned the proposal for according “A” Grade Tourist Place status to pilgrim spot of Buddhists “Deekshabhoomi” on March 7, 2018.
According to reliable sources, around 11 lakh devotees and research students visit Deekshabhoomi throughout the year. Deekshabhoomi has become a pilgrim spot for Buddhist devotees not only India but in the entire world in the last 60 years.

The Stupa erected on the Deekshaboomi grounds has gained special recognition for the Buddhist devotees.
With the efforts of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation will soon prepare a proposal and a comprehensive plan for developing Deekshabhoomi as a tourist spot. Sources said that once the plan is okayed, work will start in developing the Pilgrim spot of the Buddhist devotees as a “A” Grade Tourist Place.
Development of Deekshabhoomi is being considered keeping in mind the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dalit icon Babasaheb Ambedkar. Lakhs of his followers are expected to visit the Stupa like structure created as memorial for Ambedkar and the event of his leading his followers to embrace Buddhism at the place in 1956.
Earlier this week, the State Cabinet has sanctioned Rs125 crores for year-long celebrations from April 14 next to mark the 125 Birth Anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. A number of events would take place all over the state and construction of a new memorial at Indu Mills’s complex in Mumbai would mark the celebrations.
