Nagpur: The Anti-Narcotics Squad of Crime Branch, based on inputs received, on Tuesday (June 14) apprehended a drug peddler in Tajbagh area and seized over 2 kg of ganja worth Rs 22,500 from his possession.
According to the tip-off, the drug peddler, identified as Sheikh Firoze alias Guddu Sheikh Babbu (30), was selling ganja from his own house in Tajbagh area. Armed with the information, the sleuths of Anti-Narcotics Squad laid a trap at the spot and ina swift action, nabbed the drug peddler red handed while dealing in ganja. The cops seized over 2 kg of the narcotic stuff valued at Rs 22,500, a mobile phone worth Rs 2000 and some cash from the possession of accused Sheikh Firoze alias Guddu Sheikh Babbu.
An offence under Section 20 of NDPS Act was registered with Sakkardara Police Station against the accused drug peddler and he was put under arrest.
Police sources, however, said the drug peddler does not appear to have established a network. “We have to conduct raids case by case. Since most peddlers are addicts who turned sellers, they usually target small parties, pubs and the streets,” sources said.
The action was initiated by Police Inspector D S Khobragade, PSI Narendra Giri, Constables Datta Bagul, Vithoba Kale, Kishore Mahant, Nitin Rangne, Tulsi Shikla, Satish Patil, and woman police constable Rubina Sheikh under the directives of Acting Additional Police Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma and ACP Nilesh Raut (Crime Branch).
