Nagpur: Cracking the whip, the Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) on Monday punished the violators of COVID-19 guidelines, particularly against the people not wearing face-masks at public places, and recovered Rs 1.26 lakh as fine from 252 persons. So far, the NDS has taken 18,368 persons to task and recovered a fine of Rs 75.42 lakh from them.
The zone-wise number of persons fined on Monday is as follows: Laxmi Nagar — 54, Dharampeth — 41, Hanuman Nagar — 41, Dhantoli — 13, Nehru Nagar — 6, Gandhibagh — 14, Sataranjipura — 14, Lakdaganj — 12, Ashinagar — 22, and Mangalwari — 30. In NMC headquarters, action was taken against five persons. The action was taken under the guidance of Virsen Tambe, chief of NFS. NMC had raised the fine amount for not wearing face masks to Rs 500 from September 15 earlier this year. But the people are taking the Covid pandemic easy and violating the norms with impunity and thus paying the price.
The NMC had observed that citizens were not following Covid guidelines like social distancing and wearing of masks. To curb the spread of the deadly virus, the NMC created Nuisance Detection Squads in each zone and started taking action against the citizens who are violating the norms.
