NEW DELHI: Former Uttar Pradesh chief and Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh has passed away due to sepsis and multi-organ failure. He was 89.
Singh, who was admitted at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow, had been placed on dialysis after his condition deteriorated.

Singh, a BJP leader, was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh when the Babri mosque demolition took place in 1992. He stepped down from the post on the day the mosque was demolished.
He became CM for a second term in 1997, but was removed by his party in 1999, and left the BJP, forming his own party.
He, along with BJP veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, stood trial in connection with the mosque demolition case but was later acquitted by a CBI court.
