Nagpur Divisional Commissioner Verma posted on Central deputation

Nagpur: The Nagpur Divisional Commissioner Prajakta LavangareVerma has been posted as Joint Secretary, Union Ministry of Textiles, on Central deputation. Verma is yet to complete one year since her posting at Nagpur.

According to an order issued by Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of Cabinet, Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, on Thursday, Verma, an IAS officer (Maharashtra Cadre) of 2001 batch, will be appointed as Joint Secretary, Union Ministry of Textiles, from the date of her assuming the charge of the post. She will be on that post for a tenure of five years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Prajakta LavangareVerma took over as Divisional Commissioner of Nagpur Division on June 24, 2021. She succeeded Dr Sanjeev Kumar. It was for the first time that the Nagpur Division got a lady officer as Divisional Commissioner. Prior to it, she was holding charge as Secretary, Marathi Language Department.

Though she has been named for Central deputation, her successor is yet to be named. According to sources, she will stay in Nagpur for a few days. During this period, her successor is likely to be named. During her tenure of less than one year as Divisional Commissioner, she handled the charge efficiently. She keenly organised and participated in heritage walks, and visited various places in Nagpur district as well as Nagpur Division. Verma hails from Satara region of Maharashtra.

An alumni of Tata Institute of Social Science, she previously worked in Aurangabad district where Vaijapur Gram Panchayat got a reward of Rs 17 lakh for community participation under Mahatma Phule Water Conservation Scheme. Thereafter, during her posting as Chief Executive Officer of Ahmednagar Zilla Parishad, Verma got Nirmal Award from the Central Government for effective implementation of open defecation free campaign in 163 villages. During her tenure in CIDCO, she successfully handled land acquisition for New Mumbai Airport in 10 villages within a period of three years.
