Nagpur: In a shocking incident, a youth, who was collecting vargani (contribution) for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti programme, was thrashed severely by Congress leader Sanjay Thakre and his supporters. As the video of the incident went viral in social media, cops have registered a case against the Congress leader and his supporters. The outrageous incident took place in Haladgaon in Umred Tehsil of Nagpur district.

According to reports, the victim Shailesh Motghare (36), along with others, was collecting contribution for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti programme on Monday night. They were stopping vehicles passing through the village and demanding vargani for the event. During the same time, Congress leader Sanjay Thakre, husband of ZP member Sunita Thakre, came there along with supporters.

A wordy duel erupted between Motghare and the Congress leader over collection of the contribution. The wordy duel soon turned ugly as Sanjay Thakre and his supporters bashed up Motghare severely. However, as the police registered an non-cognisible offence, several organisations staged protests in front of Umred Police Station demanding registering of a case under Atrocities Act.

Buckling under pressure, Kuhi police booked the accused Congress leader and his supporters under the Sections of Atrocities Act and also under the IPC for rioting and beating. A probe is underway and the cops are searching for the accused, the reports said.
