Nagpur: Tension ran high near VNIT gate after a speeding Aapli Bus crushed a pedestrian to death on Abhyankar Nagar Road on Thursday night. After the mishap, the bus driver fled the spot. An angry mob of bystanders and passers-by vandalised another bus coming from behind.
Identified as Nilesh Patel (22), the deceased was a resident of Kachipura. Nilesh was crossing the road around 9.45 pm. Suddenly, the rashly-driven Aapli Bus hit him. Nilesh came under its front wheel and was seriously injured. He was rushed to Central India Institute of Medical Sciences (CIIMS), Bajaj Nagar, where the doctors declared him dead. The body was then sent to Government Medical College & Hospital for post-mortem.

As violence escalated, staff from Bajaj Nagar Police Station rushed to the spot and dispersed the unruly mob. Sources said that the deceased was a roadside corn seller. Bajaj Nagar Police detained both the buses. Further investigations are underway.
