Nagpur: With arrest of two persons from Betul district of Madhya Pradesh (MP), the Nagpur Rural Police on Sunday claimed to have solved the murder mystery of a girl whose body was found near Chargaon in Katol Police Station area on July 4.
According to police, one of the accused was in a relationship with the 19-year-old girl and was allegedly being blackmailed by her. After the identity of the girl was established, a probe zeroed in on Punit Soni (28). who owns a jewellery shop, and a juvenile. The victim used to work in Soni’s shop and the latter, who was married, began a relationship with her, police said.
Police further said that the girl was allegedly blackmailing Soni so he and the juvenile, who too is part of his shop, killed her. The duo called her on the pretext of buying a phone, strangled her at Chargaon and dumped her body near a bricks factory.
According to reports, the accused Punit is married but he got attracted towards the teenage girl after she joined the shop. She used to stay with him during travelling to Nagpur. For the past few months, she allegedly started blackmailing Punit and extorted thousands of rupees. Now, she was pressuring Punit for an iPhone and threatened to reveal their ‘affair’ before his family members. As a result, he hatched the conspiracy to kill the girl and roped in the juvenile shop worker in the conspiracy, reports said.
The worker phoned the girl on July 3 and told her that they are going to buy a new iPhone for her. The unsuspecting girl boarded the Hyundai Creta SUV driven by Punit. After reaching Chargaon, Punit and his shop worker strangled her to death and dumped the body near a brick factory, reports said.
