Dy CM Fadnavis said that MNLU should become a world-class law university
Nagpur: Voicing concern over increasing backlog of cases in courts, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said, “In many instances, due to pendency of litigations, projects worth crores are stuck up. The need is to speed up hearings.”
Speaking at the programme of Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) on Sunday, Gadkari mentioned, “Due to delay in deciding suits, the Government is saddled with losses.” Supreme Court Justice and Chancellor of MNLU Bhushan Gavai, Justice P Narasimha, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Prof Vijender Kumar, Vice Chancellor, MNLU, also were seated on the dais.
Gadkari further said, “Institutions like MNLU should become self-sufficient and cut down its dependency on the Government. The Government will continue to support the varsity in achieving greater heights in academics and on the other fronts.”
At the outset, Justice Bhushan Gavai inaugurated the hostels for boys and girls and the amenity building at MNLU’s sprawling campus at Waranga, off Wardha Road. Gadkari, in his speech, mentioned plans for the country’s largest ever double-decker fly-over from Khapri to Butibori for decongesting the four-lane highway. “A special junction would be earmarked to avoid trouble for entry and exit at Waranga for MNLU. Similarly, Butibori highway will be expanded to six lanes in due course of time,” Gadkari informed.

Justice Gavai also acknowledged the role of the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court in ironing out the shortcomings. He said, the issue of land acquisition for the varsity is now totally resolved. Now, Waranga boasts of three major educational institutions, he added.

In the past also, Maharashtra Government provided financial support and in future, if required, funds would be provided to MNLU.
