Nagpur: Even as preventive vaccination against COVID-19 has picked up pace during last fortnight, wherein, over one lakh doses were administered, Nagpur city is still ranked 3rd in State in maximising its population. Mumbai and Pune continue to be first and second in that order while the pace is now gaining in the city as Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) went on overdrive mode.
Mumbai has logged 12.51 percent, Pune 10.39 percent, while Nagpur is third with10.37 per cent. The positive cases of COVID-19 is fluctuating, but of late, the fatality, almost one daily during the last few days, was a matter of concern. The overall number of positive cases has been logged over a hundred, which prompted officials of civic body to intensify the drive as citizens, it seems, were reluctant for second dose as well as booster dose.
Off late however, the mindset seems to be changing as NMC is tying up with organisations to ensure that booster doses are provided to the populace to effectively build up protection against the virus. In connection with the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, during the last fortnight alone, the NMC clocked 1,21,579 doses of vaccination. To speed up the vaccination drive, NMC also increased the number of vaccination centres.
On the sidelines, the Har Ghar Dastak campaign was also undertaken to encourage and appeal citizens to come forward for their preventive doses. Everyone above the age of 18-years is eligible for free vaccination for booster dose of COVID preventive as per the directives of the Central and State Government. Between July 15 to 31, about 1,21,579 vaccination doses were administered and this included first, second and booster doses.
Maximum 18,181 booster doses were provided in Laxmi NagarZone. Whereas the number of first dose recipients is higher in Dharampeth where 1,187 citizens have taken the first dose of vaccination. Lakadganj Zone is at forefront in receiving the second dose with 2,047 citizens jabbed so far. Overall, in ten zones of the city, 5,853 citizens have taken the first dose, 12,833 second dose and 1,02,893 booster doses are provided till the end of July. All adults who have completed both doses within 6 months should immediately get their booster dose.
Apart from this, those who have not yet taken the first or second dose should fulfill their responsibility regarding the safety of themselves and others by getting vaccinated, said an appeal by the Health Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
