Nagpur: Maharashtra once again has figured its way in top three positions, this time; however, for wrong reasons! In the total number of cases of crime against women reported in 2021 in the country, Maharashtra has ranked third trailing behind Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Rajasthan, reveals statistics tabled by the National Crime Bureau Records (NCRB).
As per the reports revealed by the NCRB, a total of 4,28,278 crimes were registered against women, of which Uttar Pradesh topped the list with over 56,000 cases (56,083), followed by Rajasthan (40,738) and finally Maharashtra (39,526).
These cases comprised kidnapping and abduction of women, assault on women with intent to outrage their modesty and insult to the modesty of women.
As far as kidnapping and abduction of women are concerned, over 10,000 cases were recorded in Uttar Pradesh alone, 8,661 cases were registered in Bihar and 7,559 cases were reported in Maharashtra. In terms of metropolitan cities, Delhi topped the list with 3,948 cases, followed by the financial capital–Mumbai (1,103) and Bengaluru (578).
In woman’s suicide, Maharashtra has topped the list with 927 cases, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 758 cases and West Bengal with 456 cases.
Odisha leads the way with 14,853 cases of assaults on women with intent to outrage their modesty, followed by Maharashtra with 10,658 cases and Uttar Pradesh with 939 cases. Delhi tops the list with 2022 cases, followed by Mumbai and Jaipur with 1,625 cases and 586 cases respectively.
According to the NCRB report, Rajasthan tops the list with 6,337 cases of registered rape cases, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 2,947 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 2,845 cases and Maharashtra with 2,496 cases.
Uttar Pradesh managed to register maximum number of murder with rape or gang-rape cases (48), followed by Assam (46), Madhya Pradesh (35) and Maharashtra (23). Mumbai tops the list in cities with four cases, followed by Bengaluru with three cases and Ahmedabad with two cases.
A total of 63 miscarriages cases were recorded from Uttar Pradesh, followed by 26 cases in Maharashtra and 24 cases from West Bengal.
