‘Doordarshan Day’ celebrated at Arvind Indo Public School in Saoner

Nagpur/Saoner: Recently ‘Doordarshan Day’ was celebrated in Arvind Indo Public School in Saoner. School Principal Rajendra Mishra, while addressing the students, provided informative information on the beginning and progress of Doordarshan broadcasting in India. Doordarshan broadcasting in India started on September 15, 1959 when Doordarshan Kendra was opened in Delhi as an experimental project and the foundation of the official Doordarshan channel named Doordarshan was laid. The use of satellite technology in Doordarshan started in 1975-76.

In the initial days, there were 18 television sets across Delhi and one big transmitter. Then people looked at it with curiosity and wonder. After that ‘Doordarshan’ slowly spread its wings. Its broadcast started in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. The introduction of Doordarshan to cities across the country began in the 1980s and was due to the 1982 Asian Games in Delhi.

Then the family programme ‘Hum Log’ started on Doordarshan which smashed all the records of popularity. Then came the serials ‘Buniyaad’, ‘Malgudi Days’, ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’, ‘Rajni’, ‘Kahan Janab’, ‘Tumas’, ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’, ‘Vyomkesh Bakshi’, ‘Vikram Betal’, ‘Turning Point’, ‘Alif Laila’, ‘Fauji’, ‘Ramayana’, and Mahabharata created all the records. Today in our country there are 64 Doordarshan Kendras, 24 Regional News Kendras in the national network.

The motto of Doordarshan is ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’. Doordarshan is the best means of entertainment and knowledge enhancement. Doordarshan broadcasts only formal education as well as non-formal education. Regular lessons are telecast for the students on Doordarshan. Doordarshan has made a huge impact on the lives of the younger generation. Doordarshan also has many bad effects, which the government needs to pay attention to.

Obscene songs and serials promoting sex and violence should be banned. This has a bad effect on the youth and society. The students enthusiastically participated in the program ‘National Doordarshan Day’. Dr. Ashish Deshmukh, Working President of Arvind Babu Deshmukh Pratishthan appreciated the initiative of the school.
