The Nilgai, which had been rescued by the Forest Department on Tuesday, succumbed to its injuries and shock on Wednesday morning.
According to Bharat Singh Hada, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Nagpur, the Nilgai was pregnant. It was in tremendous shock and sustained internal injuries which was the reason behind its death. Before the rescue, the wild animal was chased by stray dogs due to which it sustained injuries and suffered internal bleeding, said Hada. The autopsy of the carcass took place on Wednesday by Dr Sudarshan Kakade, Veterinary Officer, Transit Treatment Centre (TTC).
Forest Department and TTC rescued the Nilgai from Sonegaon nullah, near Jaiprakash Nagar on Tuesday. The Forest Department received a call about the sighting of the Nilgai near Sahakar Nagar on Tuesday. After getting the information, a forest team rushed into the spot. After some time the Nilgai was spotted in the nullah. After observing the condition of the wild animal, the team decided to rescue the Nilgai which was also chased by stray dogs. After putting in some efforts, the team with the help of locals, rescued the Nilgai and sent it to TTC in Seminary Hills.
