6500-strong police bandobast for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din, Dussehra in Nagpur

Nagpur: A strong bandobast of 6500 police personnel has been deployed in Nagpur for Dussehra and Dhammachakra Pravartan Din celebrations in the city. As lakhs of devotees are likely to arrive at Deekshabhoomi for two-days, a special three-tier security has been put in place by Nagpur police.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar said that special security arrangements would be made at Dragon Palace Temple, too, where many VIPs are likely to attend the function. Three companies of SRPF with support of Quick Response Team, Riot Control Police will also be deployed at Deekshabhoomi.

The police have decided to install 100 CCTV cameras in the nearby area of Deekshabhoomi. Similarly, special police teams will take charge at eight entry points.

The CP said that a large number of devotees would arrive from railways. Therefore, the police have intensified bandobast at Ajni and main railway stations. Barricades have been put up at the intersections around the Deekshabhoomi. A total of 2,000 volunteers of Samata Sainik Dal will also help the police in handling the system.

Two Path Sanchalan programmes will be organised by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday morning. The police personnel will be deployed on the routes. Ravan Dahan programmes will be organised at 29 places across the city. Similarly, arrangements will be made for Durga immersion at 33 places. In case of any problem, the citizens can contact the help centre set up at different places. If needed, 112 can also be contacted, said CP.

After two years, the police have deployed a three-tier security system to control the huge number of devotees thronging at Deekshabhoomi. RPF and Railway Police have made tight security at Nagpur Railway Station and Ajni Station for the followers coming for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din. Together, around 350 personnel will be deployed.

Deekshabhoomi has been crowded since the previous morning. A large security has been put in place by the police. One State Reserve Force company including two Deputy Commissioner rank officers, seven Assistant Commissioners of Police, 24 Police Inspectors, 85 Assistant Police Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors, 1,105 police personnel, 200 Home Guards, 40 State Reserve Force personnel will be deployed.
